In Vermont (USA) a timber home faces Lake Champlain. The site, a protected shoreline area close to the lake’s edge, brings its own sensitivities: trees need to stay rooted and water levels accounted for. By sectioning the home into different platforms, the rooms are carefully re-pieced together to engage with the full scale of the surrounding lakeside views and forestry. The home provides access to doubly enchanting views of the lake and forest which are the foci of the residence. Perched next to Lake Champlain, the positioning of each room intensifies the connection with the landscape.
